i love this photo of zooey deschanel. as of late, she has been my main style icon and i think this picture reflects it all. she wears the prettiest colors for her complexion, loves intricate details, and has vintage sensibilities. *and a fabulous haircut!*

stuck on spring

it seems to be all i can talk about lately. i am totally, 100% ready for spring. warm spring. i know that it is actually spring now, here in the US, but y'all...brooklyn just isn't warm yet.

my honey and i have a great dynamic. he talks to me about obscure movie stuff *see his blog here* and i talk to him about my spring/summer wardrobe. both of us just nod and smile as the other is talking...but it is nice to share. we both love food tremendously...so there's the common bond.

now i'm not always fashion centric...and that isn't my intention for this blog *although it may be a large part of it* but i just have to talk about more things for spring. yesterday we talked about dresses...today it's footwear. specifically, gladiator sandals.

i think these strappy, large ankle flattering shoes *...maybe i have large ankles* would be perfect with any spring or summer dress that i listed yesterday. i plan on getting multiple pairs. i've listed my favorites below.

the uniform

these are shoes i would wear every single day. these shoes would make me keep up a pedicure. these shoes are perfect *i think.*
left: jeffery campbell - tip 2. right: farylrobin - warrior.

the bright

everyone needs a little bit of color in their wardrobe...and i need a lot more than most. i want a pair of these sandals in every color of the rainbow.
left: j. renee - jules. right: marc by marc jacobs - metallic flat sandals.

the dressy

i love dressy flats. i've always been tall...and my honey isn't the tallest guy, so these flats are right up my alley.
left: via spiga - undo. right: sam edelman - ginger.

the modest but not modestly priced

these sandals are simple and expensive. not my personal taste...but they have to be super nice. thought i would throw them in the mix.
left: pedro garcia - thea. right: dolce & gabbana - flat gladiator sandal.

the wacky

i like unconventional accessories. paired with something simple, these surprising shoes would look amazing. who doesn't want to be the center of attention?

let me know what you think!

image from the urban collection

i saw this dress on the urban collection's website too late. it was already sold and my heart was shattered to pieces. but i saved the image and my quest has begun. i will find a dress that is equally bright, patterened, and fitted *and bonus points if it is cheaper.* please let me know if you see anything like this out there.

oh...and there is a big apparel update to the shop on this wednesday. i know i'll be there.

  • seriously clean the bedroom *i had a lazy easter weekend*

spring dresses on ebay

i obsessively troll ebay for amazing, one of a kind finds because i no longer have the wonderfully cheap, fabulously under picked thrift stores of south carolina to troll. i have gathered my favorite floral dresses from the lot *and it was hard now that almost everyone has a fashion mag inspired vintage shop.* i hope you love them too because...well i can't bid on them all! just click on the photo to get to the auction.

the nude

i love these dresses because it *almost* doesn't look like they are wearing dresses. it just looks like they are covered in soft, romantic flowers. who doesn't want to look naked?

the bright

these dresses play to my sensibilities for spring/summer. right now i want everything in my wardrobe to be bright and floral. and there is nothing like the bright floral pop of a 70's mini *or even better, 70's maxi* dress.

the ethnic

when you can't travel to a tropical destination you can at least dress like you did. these ethnic minis would be best worn in a villa on the beaches of bali...but that is just wishful thinking for me. *i simply adore the brown and turquoise mini caftan. perfection!*

the geometric *not floral...but fun!*

these dresses utilize a basic form to provide eye popping pattern. i especially love the way these models have paired bright tights with boldly designed dresses *which would allow me to wear my beloved spring dresses in the very chilly early spring when the last thing that i want to put on is another...eww...sweater.*

let me know if you happen to be the lucky winner of any of these dresses.

happy bidding!

this photo, taken by the sartorialist on his trip to new dehli, has totally inspired me to put makeup under my eyes. i love the bold silver flash this woman, he affectionately termed "silver eyes", has pulled off with such ease. there will be more of this to come. specifically on me!

food-centric friday

i did it!!! i came up with a blogging day of the week without even thinking about it.

*mainly because i think about food all the time...*

i have really been craving steak and guinness pies recently. and i don't think i am the only one, as i have noticed an influx of postings on my favorite foodie website, tastespotting. really any savory pie would do...onion and cheese...beef pot pie...but steak and guinness is really what i have needing.i guess it may have been over a year ago that my friend introduced me to the tuck shop. it is a tiny austrailan cafe, of sorts, that specializes *and almost exclusively serves* meat pies. they are always warm and friendly and the steak and guinness pie hits the spot every time.

this is my go-to choice when ordering...but it may not be available depending on the time of day. they bake their pies a couple of times throughout the day and then when they run out, they are gone. this makes the visit even more exciting because i never know what i'm going to be eating. and if i actually get a steak pie it's like winning the lottery.

because of their fresh daily pies mantra, every one i have ever tasted has been amazing. chicken curry, chili with pico de gallo, lamb with veggies...it's all good. and even better than their pies is the fact that on friday and saturday they are open to 5 am. *and they are just off my train line going home.*

i recommend the tuck shop 100% to anyone in a 30 minute radius. let me know if you try it!

this article in the ny times dining and wine section has inspired me to be more resourceful with my fridge full of left overs. sometimes it is embarrassing the amount of food that spoils in its icy depths.

i'm on a posting rampage!

but when the inspiration strikes...i just gotta do it.
i was checking out today's post over at style bubble and found this amazing blog called wear palettes. the idea is this guy takes photos from THE sartorialist and breaks the outfits down by color. the result is wonderful.

recently on the sartorialist, there was a picture of wes anderson in paris. i love his movies so much and am currently obsessed with his latest movie the darjeeling limited. so when i found the palette on wear palettes i had to show you. it is perfect.

wes anderson

adrien brody, jason schwartzman, and owen wilson in darjeeling limited.

these are my favorites but the whole website is great. check it out!

posters in the bathroom?

i got an email from the people person *read: human resources manager* at my new job yesterday. my official start date is march 31st but it seems they want me hanging around the office a lot sooner than that.

she asked me for a photo of myself and a 10 things about me list so she could make posters and hang them in the bathroom. *i can't wait to work at this place!!!* they do this for all of their new employees so everyone can get to know them a little bit better.

i thought i would share with you...so you can get to know me a little bit better too!

birthday review: aught eight

i got a call from robert as i got off the subway. the east village location of la palapa was closed for renovations. i was totally bummed, as that was the first stop on our village wide tour. i suggested we look for another happy hour on st. marks...because there were bound to be some great ones we had not tried. he told me there was a bus going to the west village location. a bus?

left to right: jan, me, chris, robert.

*cue house mix and disco lights*

A PARTY BUS!!!

it was so completely surreal.

because it was at the very beginning of happy hour the bus was empty. it was just me, my honey, and a sweetly crazy old woman. and of course the dj. and a cocktail waitress. but that was it.

they gave us margaritas and played/sung happy birthday for me.

because it was the very beginning of happy hour i had not had a cocktail yet. and it was still daylight. so there was no dancing for me. but the old lady got down. and y'all...the beats was thumpin'.

me with the old lady...did i mention she was dressed like a fisherman?

we met up with people at the other palapa and indulged in the delicious, half price margaritas. the bus ride back to the east village was completely different.

we danced all the way.

on to the continental.

this bar was roomy, divey, and awesomely cheap. good times were had by all.

left to right: me, gigi, bill, chris

we drank excessive amounts of whisky and generally partied like rock stars.

my honey being ridiculous...and ridiculously drunk!

we developed a mean appetite....so. on to the tuck shop.

me and duke. photo taken just before we devoured our steak and guinness pies. yum!
it was amazing. as it always is. and the dude gave me a free beer cause it was my birthday!

we never made it to pomme frites, which is sad...but probably a smart move on our part. as soon as i finished my meat pie we hopped in a cab and headed home.

it was an amazing night. i am pretty miserable this morning...but i don't regret it at all.

i love everything about this living room. okay almost everything. i would change the color palate...but that is it. the vintage lamp in the corner is amazing. and the huge sofa. and the mirrored screen. especially the way it casts patterened light onto the wall. i love it.
